Highest Peak of the Lower Himalayas — Perfect Weekend Trek at 3,022m
Travel Guide
Nag Tibba (3,022m) is the highest peak of the Lower Himalayan range in Uttarakhand and one of the most popular weekend treks for those based in Delhi and north India. Located in the Tehri Garhwal district, just 290km from Delhi, Nag Tibba can be completed in 2 days — making it the go-to trek for Delhi weekend warriors who want a genuine mountain summit experience without taking too many days off.
The name translates to "Serpent's Peak" in Garhwali — the summit has a small Nag Devta (serpent deity) temple revered by local villagers. The trek begins from Pantwari village (1,600m) and ascends through oak, rhododendron, and deodar forests before emerging onto the open ridge that leads to the summit. The panoramic views from the top on a clear day include Bandarpunch, Swargarohini, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri peaks — a 180-degree sweep of the Garhwal Himalaya.
Nag Tibba receives snow from December through February, transforming into a white winter wonderland and making it one of the best easy winter snow treks from Delhi. The trail is well-marked and guided tours are available from multiple Mussoorie and Dehradun-based operators.
